Akane Festival

The Akane Festival was initiated to unite people and revive the energy and vibrancy of Akasaka town. This festival serves as a revitalization project for the entire Akasaka area, showcasing its diverse attractions in terms of taste, history, culture, and people. Our goal is to share these captivating charms with an increasing number of people and provide them an enjoyable experience.

Originally planned to coincide with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the event was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, the festival took place solely as an online event in 2021. However, in 2022, we were thrilled to finally hold the festival as an in-person event.

The Akane Matsuri comprises two main components: the Akane Market and Akabero. At the Akane Market, hosted at Akasaka Sacas Square, a variety of programs unfolded on a special stage over two days. These included Akasaka geisha dancing, running classes, traditional Japanese musical performances (kiyari and ohayashi), children’s kabuki, cheerleading, and live shows. Additionally, Akasaka restaurant volunteers set up food stalls, creating a lively atmosphere. Akabero spanned across a wide area of Akasaka, featuring the enthusiastic participation of numerous restaurants and stores.

Akabello (Akasaka yoi machi barhopping)

Akabello is a gourmet event aimed at revitalizing the Akasaka area. It originated as the “Akasaka Eat or Drink Night” (Eat and Drink Night) in June 2012, following the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011. The event was launched to restore the energy of Akasaka, which was heavily affected by the disaster. Over time, it has gained popularity and is now held twice a year for two days, attracting around 2,000 attendees. In November 2022, the event officially adopted the name Akabero and has become well-known as a bar-hopping event.
