About us

Akane Co-Creation Project Origins

We gathered with friends who have deep connections to Akasaka – born and raised there, working or simply loving the town. Our discussions led to a strong determination and a starting point for action, giving birth to the Akane Co-creation Project. This project transcends boundaries between restaurants, shopping associations, businesses, and shrines, uniting a group of friends who share a love for Akasaka and a commitment to its future.

While there are various projects advocating for local redevelopment, some of them result in large-scale transformations that can disconnect newly created city blocks from the unique climate and history of the area. The Akane Co-creation Project, however, cherishes Akasaka’s essence. We focus on urban development that is deeply rooted in Akasaka, aiming to make it an even more captivating town through initiatives that revitalize stores, nurture traditional culture, enhance community safety, and support the healthy upbringing of children.

The name “Akane” is derived from the “Akane grass,” which also inspired the name Akasaka. “Akane” can also be translated as “morning sun,” symbolizing our hope for continuous light to shine upon Akasaka, making it an inspiring place for all.

Our Thoughts

Akasaka, located in the heart of Tokyo, has a rich history of bringing people together and nurturing its cultural heritage. Today, it encompasses a diverse blend of commerce, entertainment, broadcasting, and politics, making it a multifaceted district.

The aim of the Akane Co-creation Project is to share the essence of Akasaka – its unique taste, history, culture, and its vibrant community – with as many people as possible. Through a variety of events, we seek to showcase the charm of Akasaka and contribute to its revitalization. Our goal is not only to delight existing Akasaka enthusiasts but also to introduce those unfamiliar with Akasaka to its wonders, hoping they will visit and appreciate it in the future.

We have a strong desire to contribute to Akasaka in any way possible. The Akane Co-Creation Project was born from this passion. People from different backgrounds, whether they were born and raised in Akasaka or arrived by chance, have come together to work for the betterment of Akasaka, overcoming differences in their occupations, positions, and environments.

Our activities began in response to the aftermath of the March 11 disaster. The city was overshadowed by planned power outages and other issues, and the lively atmosphere of the stores and nightlife in Akasaka had diminished. In May 2012, we initiated the “Akasaka Eat and Drink Night,” a special event in Akasaka 2-chome, aiming to revive the energy of Akasaka. Starting with the participation of enthusiastic restaurants, the event grew over the years, attracting more customers and increasing the number of participating establishments.

Just as we were preparing for a grand event in Tokyo in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Despite facing multiple states of emergency and business restrictions, our determination to support Akasaka only grew stronger. Through the support and cooperation of new acquaintances and the use of crowdfunding, we were able to hold the event in a virtual format, contributing to the revitalization of Akasaka. However, we realized that we still yearned to connect and see smiles at real events.

Fortunately, as the situation with the pandemic has improved, we are now able to hold events with caution. It would be our greatest joy to welcome you to Akane Matsuri, “Akasaka yoi machi barhopping,” or “Akabero” in the future. We genuinely love Akasaka and long to witness your happy faces here. That, perhaps, is the primary motivation behind establishing the Akane Co-Creation Project.

We’re seeking enthusiastic individuals to participate in events  is a gourmet event
aimed at revitalizing the Akasaka area.
It originated as the “Akasaka Eat or Drink Night” (Eat and Drink Night) in June 2012,
following the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011.
The event was launched to restore the energy of Akasaka, which was heavily affected by the disaster.
Over time, it has gained popularity and is now held twice a year for two days, attracting around 2,000 attendees.
In November 2022, the event officially adopted the name Akabero and has become well-known as a bar-hopping event.
